System of cooperating vehicles for individualised public transport (NeMo.bil)

Duration: 01.07.2023 - 30.06.2026

The joint project "NeMo.bil" is developing and prototyping an innovative, swarm-like mobility system. Swarms of automated small lightweight vehicles are combined to form a convoy and thus enable a new form of sustainable and needs-based passenger and goods transport in rural areas.

The joint project "NeMo.bil" is developing and prototyping an innovative, swarm-like mobility system. This enables a new form of sustainable and needs-based passenger and goods transport in rural areas. To this end, a new systemic approach is being pursued that combines the swarms of automated small lightweight vehicles, which are designed for use over the first and last few miles, into a convoy for longer distances. After mechanical coupling, the small automated vehicles are towed by a larger, also automated vehicle and supplied with energy to cover longer distances. An operating platform including multi-objective optimisation algorithms enables efficient system operation for networked and flexible on-demand mobility services. The combination of differently designed vehicles and the intelligent linking of these to mobility swarms achieves a previously unattainable level of energy efficiency. Furthermore, significant improvements are expected in the areas of user acceptance, costs, use of resources and emissions. The result is a mobility system of cooperating vehicles for sustainable, individualised public transport.

Based on the common objective in NeMo.bil, the partner TU Dortmund University is working on the following points: Development of an action-theoretical model of mobility behaviour including parameter specification and specification of a catalogue of requirements for data collection. In addition, a simulation model of the NeMo.bil system is being developed using the MATSim simulation framework. This means in particular the content modelling of patterns of everyday mobility and an agent-based modelling and simulation of application scenarios of the NeMo.bil system. Finally, the developed simulation model will be used to carry out and evaluate sociologically based simulation experiments focusing on the mobility behaviour of people who are potential users of the NeMo.bil system.
